“3, 2, 1 Go!!”

by | Feb 28, 2018

As a coach at CrossFit Khrusos, I’m often the one saying the words above.  But last Friday, I had the opportunity to participate in the first workout of the 2018 CrossFit Open, otherwise known as 18.1.  With 18.1 officially in the books, I had a few reflections for the start of “Open Season”…

  1. Excitement!!  Friday Night Lights at CrossFit Khrusos is incredible! The atmosphere of athletes and spectators cheering you on as you sweat, push, pull, and grind your way through a workout is nothing short of awesome. While I always get a little nervous right before starting a WOD, having a full-on cheering section and helpful guidance from judges is the best part of doing the workout.
  2. Humbling.  Personally, gymnastics moves just aren’t my thing.  So my score for 18.1 definitely wasn’t anywhere close to the top of the leaderboard.  However, instead of making excuses (which I do), avoiding movements we’re not the best at (I sometimes do this too), or always managing to schedule a rest day on a double under workout (who me?), this is an opportunity for everyone to identify areas of improvement, set goals, and give yourself credit for wins along the way.
  3. Family.  CrossFit Khrusos truly is a family!  We’ve developed friendships and relationships over time, encourage each other, help each other improve, and congratulate on WODS well done (or just done period!).  We celebrate successes and are each other’s best supporters.  Our family is growing and getting bigger, stronger, and faster every day!

This Open season is almost over. It has been hard, none of my strengths put together, in an ideal amount of time for me. Fitness and life are very similar in that regard. Life doesn’t care how your day went or what time you left work or your quality of sleep. And so...
